Michigan CPA Association Sponsored Race For The Cure® Event June 10 at Comerica Park

TROY, Mich., June 12, 2006 – The Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA) continued to make an impact in the community by serving as an official Bronze and Survivor Café sponsor of the 15th Annual Komen Detroit Race for the Cure® and by sending a delegation of 102 participants to the event on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Comerica Park in Detroit.

The MACPA celebrated their 3rd year participating in this community outreach initiative, which is Michigan’s largest race organized with a mission to eradicate breast cancer.

Through an initiative of its New Professionals Task Force, the MACPA organized a delegation of CPAs, Association staff, friends and families to participate in the
event – a 1 mile walk, 5k walk or 5k run. The Task Force consists of 38 newly licensed CPAs, professionals pursuing their license and college-level accounting students. They and their guests joined approximately 30,000 event participants, including 2,000 breast cancer survivors and 400 corporate, community, school and family teams.

Proceeds from the Race will help support breast cancer education, research, screening and treatment programs. Seventy-five percent of all proceeds raised from the event remain in the local community, while the other 25 percent is allocated to national breast cancer research grants.

The Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants is a diversified, professional, member-driven organization serving more than 16,000 CPAs and affiliated professionals throughout Michigan. Visit MACPA’s web site at www.michcpa.org.
