Pride Through Outreach:
MACPA Accounting Blitz Targets Elementary Students
for the MAcpa Accounting Blitz |
Since 2000, the MACPA has partnered with Junior Achievement to host the MACPA Accounting Blitzes. In the fall and spring each school year, MACPA volunteers spend a day in the classroom teaching kindergarten through eighth grade students the principles of business using lesson plans created by Junior Achievement (JA). The Accounting Blitzes reach students in communities across the state, including Detroit, Grand Rapids, Traverse City, Flint, Saginaw and Lansing. Making Volunteering Fun and EasyThe MACPA and JA strategically organize Accounting Blitzes so individuals can volunteer for just one day. A team of volunteers for each Blitz provide a single day of back-to-back lessons within each community. (Typical JA volunteers are required to spend an hour a day over five days volunteering.) Not only does this make it easier for a busy volunteer, it also generates a special energy as the whole school focuses on JA for the day. Score One for Financial LiteracyCPAs across the country are pledging to help increase the financial literacy of Americans. MACPA Accounting Blitzes are one of the Association's proudest efforts to contribute to this goal. View the statistics below to see why we are so proud. |

“It is all about making a difference. It doesn’t matter how much money you make, how hard you work, how successful you become or how you display success, if you do not touch the life of another, you are not yet a success.”
- Gail Sparks Pitts, MACPA Board treasurer and controller
at Oakland Community College
"To me, being a CPA does sound like a fun job. You get to take care of people's money and I love working with money."
- Latoya Riley, a 5th grader at Bellevue Elementary
