Michigan CPA Association Named to 2006 Associations Advance America Honor Roll

TROY, Mich., June 26, 2006 – The Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA) has been named to the 2006 Associations Advance America Honor Roll, a national awards competition sponsored by the American Society of Association of Executives (ASAE), Washington, DC.

The MACPA received the award for the development of its High School Leaders Conference, which teaches high school juniors and seniors about exciting career options in business and accounting.

Worldwide competition demands that high school students are exposed to the ever-changing world of business and the MACPA High School Leaders Conference provides students with information they need to help guide them on their academic path leading to a chosen profession. Presented at five locations throughout Michigan in 2005/2006, more than 650 students heard from a cross-section of CPAs, including FBI agents who hunt down corporate fraud and from the vice president of finance for National Hockey League’s Detroit Red Wings, whose name appears on the Stanley Cup. Of these students, 96 percent of them expressed an interest in pursuing a degree in accounting.

Now in its 16th year, the prestigious Associations Advance America Awards program recognizes associations that propel America forward – with innovative projects in education, skills training, standards setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship and community service. Although association activities have a powerful impact on everyday life, they often go unnoticed by the general public.
“The MACPA’s program truly embodies the spirit of the Associations Advance America campaign. It is an honor and an inspiration to showcase this activity as an example of the many contributions associations are making to advance American society,” remarked Associations Advance America Committee Chair Bill Bergman, CAE, president of Williams S. Bergman Associates.

The Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants is a diversified, professional, member-driven organization serving more than 16,000 CPAs and affiliated professionals throughout Michigan. Visit MACPA’s web site at www.michcpa.org.
