Accounting Educator of the Year

The MACPA Accounting Educator of the Year Award recognizes educators who excel in teaching accounting and promoting the CPA profession. The stellar individuals who receive this award not only emphasize the importance of accounting education to the profession, but the role professors’ play in supporting CPAs.

Guidelines

The nominee should be a full-time Michigan educator at a community college, college or university who has made continuing contributions to the education of accounting students that clearly exceeds excellence. Such an educator indelibly marks the professional bearing and competence of his or her students.

Eligibility

  • Currently teaching, or recently retired from accounting education in the last 12 months;
  • Employed by a post secondary accredited (North Central or above) educational institution in Michigan;
  • Must have taught one accounting course within the past 12 months;
  • Cannot be a prior recipient of the MACPA Accounting Educator of the Year Award or serve on the Accounting Educator of the Year Award Selection Ad Hoc Committee;
  • Need not be a CPA or hold a doctoral degree;
  • Need not be a member of the MACPA.

In addition, educators who are noted for their teaching abilities, but are now predominately involved in administration or research are eligible for the award.

Primary Criteria

  • Distinguished for excellence in classroom teaching, motivating students and educational innovation;
  • Contributed to the academic community and/or the accounting profession;
  • Selected through a formal process by the Association.
