Michigan Accountancy Laws & Rules

            

 

On December 19, 2005, Governor Jennifer Granholm signed a package of legislative bills that amended:
  • The Michigan Occupational Code
  • The State Licensed Fee Act
  • The Code of Criminal Procedures

The legislative changes represent sweeping reform to the regulation of Michigan CPAs.

Major provisions of the legislative package include:

  • Whistleblower protection for CPAs and individuals who work for CPAs
  • Required enrollment by Michigan CPA firms and sole practitioners in a practice monitoring or peer review program
  • Enhanced enforcement of unlicensed activity or “copycat CPAs”
