CPE Requirements for Certification

Michigan State Board
of Accountancy

CPAs licensed to practice by the State of Michigan must earn 40 hours of CPE each CPE period (July 1-June 30), per the requirements of the Michigan State Board of Accountancy.

Fifty minutes of continuous instruction results in one hour of CPE credit; those who attend in 25 minute continuous increments after the first 50 minutes of continuous instruction can receive half credit.

  • No more than 50 percent of this requirement can be self-study.
  • Eight (8) hours of each forty-hour requirement must be accounting and auditing.
  • Two (2) hours of every 40 hours must be ethics.
  • One year’s CPE requirement in each reporting category may be carried-over annually.

Visit the Michigan State Board of Accountancy on-line or contact them at 517.241.9288 for more information. Consult the Yellow Book for reporting requirements.
