What is the Speakers Bureau?

As an expert resource, the MACPA is often asked by schools and community groups to speak to them about accounting topics. The MACPA Speakers Bureau is a consortium of MACPA members prepared to give presentations to these requesting groups.

As a volunteer you will be given the opportunity to speak to groups in your community about the accounting profession, financial topics, the role of a CPA and many other subjects within your expertise.

As a Volunteer, What Will I Speak About?

The most common topic addressed through our Speakers Bureau is the vast opportunities the accounting profession offers to students. There is a great demand for accounting graduates. The MACPA reaches out to large numbers of elementary, junior high, high school and college students through its volunteer speakers.

To support you in your speaking engagement, the MACPA provides its speakers with a Speakers Toolkit. The Toolkit outlines 15-, 30- and 45-minute presentations explaining the profession and answering questions about careers in accounting. In addition to the Toolkit, the volunteer is also supplied with supplementary handouts and presentation tips.

In addition, if you have already been asked to do a speaking engagement – at your child’s school, for example – and would like to receive materials and handouts, the MACPA can help. Just contact us to let us know.

Do I Qualify to be a Speaker?

There are no requirements as to how many speaking engagements a volunteer must complete during the school year and no training sessions are required to participate in this program.

What is the Time Commitment of a Speaker?

You can volunteer to participate in the Speakers Bureau at any time throughout the year. As requests for speakers are made by schools in your area, we will contact you to find out if you are available to do the engagement. Speakers Bureau volunteers are generally only called upon September through June, the academic year, as this is when teachers submit requests for speakers. A typical engagement will require that a speaker attend one class session to address a classroom of students.
